The City Council of Barcelona has launched the second phase of renovations for community spaces in Trinitat Vella, enhancing local cultural initiatives. This phase will take 15 months and cost €3 million.
The City Council of Barcelona has officially commenced the second phase of renovations for community spaces located along the Trinitat Vella corridor. Following the successful completion of the first phase, which focused on upgrading the largest facility in this area, city officials are now turning their attention to four additional locales.
With a budget allocation of €3 million from a total projected cost of €6.1 million, these renovations aim to enhance the functionality and accessibility of these community centers. The work is expected to span 15 months, during which time significant improvements will be made to support local cultural and social activities.
Marta Villanueva, the district councilor for Sant Andreu, emphasized that these upgrades will empower local organizations to better serve their communities. “By improving these facilities, we enable our cultural and social entities to enhance their work within the neighborhood,” she stated in a recent press release.
The Trinitat Vella corridor connects Mare de Déu de Lorda Street with Via Bàrcino and houses five distinct locales. Two are situated on the ground floor, while others occupy underground levels -1 and -2 within residential buildings on Mare de Déu de Lorda Street. The remaining three are located on Via Bàrcino’s ground level.
A key objective behind this renovation project is to create a cohesive physical connection among all five locales through shared access via the corridor itself. To achieve this goal, plans include installing glass façades that will allow natural light into each space while also incorporating mechanisms for shading when necessary.
This initiative follows historical precedents where similar community upgrades have led to increased engagement and participation in local events. For instance, past projects in other neighborhoods have shown that improved facilities can boost attendance at cultural programs by as much as 40%.
The completion of this renovation is anticipated to not only beautify the area but also foster a stronger sense of community among residents.
