Starting July 1, residents of El Prat will benefit from a new direct bus line to Bellvitge Hospital, enhancing public transport access to essential healthcare services.
A significant improvement in public transportation is set to take effect on July 1, as the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) and the City Council of El Prat launch a new bus line, L22. This service will provide direct access from El Prat de Llobregat to the renowned Bellvitge Hospital, addressing long-standing community demands for better healthcare connectivity.
The L22 will operate on weekdays from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM, with buses arriving every hour. This route is designed not only for patients visiting the main hospital but also for those needing urgent care and services at the nearby Oncological Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine.
This initiative marks a revival and expansion of a previously tested connection that ran during a pilot program in 2023 and 2024. The AMB and local authorities have responded positively to feedback from residents who sought improved access to medical facilities.
The bus will begin its journey along Avenida de Josep Anselm Clavé, traversing through key areas including Avenida de la Verge de Montserrat and Avenida del Remolar before stopping at Rodalies station. After crossing the river, it will make stops at TMB garages and the Oncological Hospital before reaching its final destination at Bellvitge.
“Cities evolve, grow, and new residents require new services,” stated Alba Bou, Mayor of El Prat, emphasizing the importance of adapting public transport systems to meet changing urban needs.
The changes are not limited to just this new line; several existing routes are also being modified. Urban lines PR1, PR2, PR3, along with metropolitan line L20, will adjust their paths away from narrow streets like Joan Maragall and Enric Borràs towards broader avenues such as Josep Anselm Clavé. This shift aims to enhance accessibility to vital community facilities including civic centers and educational institutions like Escola d’Oficis and Escola d’Idiomes.
The L78 route connecting El Prat with Sant Boi de Llobregat will also see alterations that improve service coverage in neighborhoods such as Eixample Sud and Barceloneta. These adjustments are expected to facilitate more direct connections with both Rodalies station and Metro lines.
Joan Maria Bigas, Director of Mobility at AMB, remarked that these modifications aim to create a “more accessible metropolitan bus network” tailored to local needs. He noted that they reflect both current demand trends and urban growth patterns in the area.
This overhaul represents an important step towards enhancing public transport infrastructure in El Prat. Residents can look forward to improved travel options starting this summer.
