The Mataró City Council has launched a project to create a temporary parking lot in Cerdanyola, adding 111 spaces, including accessible options. This initiative aims to enhance local mobility and support community needs.

The Mataró City Council has commenced work on transforming the former Mas Miralles site in the Cerdanyola neighborhood into a temporary parking facility. This project will provide 111 new parking spaces, with four designated for individuals with reduced mobility. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve accessibility and mobility within the area.

The construction will take place on two adjacent plots located at Calle del Mar, 2 and Calle del Penedès, 2-10. In addition to creating parking spaces, the project includes upgrades to the local drainage system and public lighting, ensuring that the infrastructure meets current standards.

This temporary parking solution employs modular and recoverable paving materials. Such choices reflect a commitment to sustainability, allowing for easy removal should future developments occur on the site. Furthermore, plans include planting trees to mitigate heat islands and enhancing green areas with herbaceous plants in non-parking zones. These measures are designed not only to beautify the space but also to promote environmental conservation by facilitating rainwater infiltration into the aquifer.

The creation of this provisional parking lot is part of the ‘Cerdanyola Viva: for an inclusive, resilient, and innovative neighborhood’ program. It is funded through the Pla de Barris i Viles initiative for 2025-2029. The total budget for this eight-month project amounts to €370,229.18, including VAT, with Catalana de Treballs i Obres SL awarded the contract.

This development comes at a time when many cities are grappling with increasing vehicle congestion and limited parking options. Historical data shows that urban areas that invest in flexible transportation solutions often see improved traffic flow and enhanced community satisfaction.

Residents can expect significant changes in their daily commuting experience once this facility opens later this year. For those looking for alternative parking solutions during construction, nearby public transport options remain available along major routes serving Cerdanyola.
