A fire and a malfunction at two electrical substations left 87,000 residents without power early Monday morning. Endesa confirmed that service has since been restored.

Early Monday morning, approximately 87,000 residents in the Barcelona area experienced power outages due to two separate incidents at local electrical substations. The first incident occurred at 12:22 AM, when a fire broke out in a transformer at a substation near the Hospital de Bellvitge, affecting around 68,000 customers in Cornellà de Llobregat and L’Hospitalet de Llobregat.

The fire was extinguished within about 40 minutes, allowing Endesa technicians to restore power swiftly. Just ten minutes later, another issue arose at the Collblanc substation in L’Hospitalet, where a malfunction caused one of its transformers to disconnect. This second incident impacted an additional 19,000 customers.

The quick response from Endesa meant that power was restored within approximately 20 minutes for those affected by the malfunction. Despite the significant number of people impacted by these outages, many were asleep during the incidents, which minimized disruption for local businesses.

This situation highlights vulnerabilities within urban infrastructure systems. Power outages can have cascading effects on daily life and commerce; however, this incident’s timing mitigated some potential fallout.

The last major outage in this region occurred over three years ago when severe weather conditions knocked out power for several days across multiple neighborhoods. Residents are advised to stay informed about their local utility services and report any issues promptly.

If you experience any further disruptions or have questions regarding your service status, contact Endesa’s customer service directly or check their website for real-time updates on electrical supply issues.
