What we use and why

Barcelona Press loads a single third party: Google Analytics, which tells us how many people read us and which content is of interest. We do not show personalised advertising and we do not pass that information on to anyone else.

Nothing is stored until you allow it

When you arrive, measurement starts in restricted mode: no cookie or identifier is placed on your device and only aggregated information reaches Google, with nothing that can recognise you. If you accept in the notice, Google analytics cookies are enabled (_ga and _ga_<id>, lasting two years), which serve to tell a new visit from a returning one.

The categories in the notice

  • Necessary: essential for the site to work. Always on and they collect no information about you.
  • Analytics: the Google Analytics cookies described above.
  • Marketing: we load none today. The category exists so that, if we ever add advertising, it cannot be enabled without your permission.

You can change your mind

In the notice you can accept all, reject or choose by category, and you can change your choice at any time from Manage cookies in the footer. Rejecting does not restrict access to any content.

How we count visits

Separately from the above, we measure visits with our own anonymous system, which stores nothing on your device. For each visit we record the page viewed, the site you came from and the type of browser.

Your IP address is not stored: it is turned into an encrypted code that also changes every day, so it is not possible to follow your browsing from one day to the next or link it to you. This measurement is not shared with third parties and is not used for advertising.

Embedded content

External content quoted in an article (for example, social media posts) is shown as a quotation with a link. The original player only loads if you have accepted the marketing category or if, on an embedded video, you expressly press the play button, which says so; until then, that third party receives no data about you.
