A new chapter for the GR92 coastal path
The Tarragona City Council has made a crucial decision for environmental conservation by awarding the environmental restoration works of the GR92 coastal path, which stretches between the iconic Fortí de la Reina and the Cossis park. This intervention, which aims to revitalise and protect the natural resources of the area, has been awarded to the company Ambientalia World SL for a total of €209,728.08, VAT included.
The works are scheduled to take place over an estimated period of four months and will encompass various essential actions. These include the removal of debris and waste accumulated in the surroundings, as well as the elimination of invasive plant species that threaten the local ecosystem. Additionally, the path will be restored to ensure both its safety and accessibility.
To facilitate transit along this natural route, support elements such as stairs and handrails will be installed. The planting of native species is also planned, which will not only beautify the landscape but also help strengthen the ecological balance of the area.
This effort is part of the City Council's Tourism Sustainability Plan, known as Tarragona between blue and green, which aims to adapt to climate change through green and sustainable initiatives. The funding comes from the Next Generation Funds program, highlighting the municipal commitment to a transition towards more environmentally friendly practices.
However, this project was not without difficulties; last September, the first bidding was unsuccessful due to various factors. Nevertheless, thanks to a renewed approach and more effective planning, the works were finally awarded.
Tarragona thus moves towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future. The restoration of the GR92 path will not only benefit nature lovers and local tourism but will also serve as a model for future environmental initiatives in other regions.
