Traffic Disruption for Infrastructure Improvements
On the night from Thursday to Friday, drivers travelling on the C-31 between Castelldefels and Gavà will face a significant closure on this important road. The Conselleria de Territori, Habitatge i Transició Ecològica has announced that the works to complete the installation of a new pedestrian bridge will necessitate traffic diversion for safety reasons.
The project involves the dismantling of an old metal beam that has been in use for years. This structure, which measures approximately 32 metres and weighs around 13 tonnes, will be removed using two large-capacity cranes, strategically positioned on both carriageways of the motorway.
Motorists heading towards Barcelona will need to take a detour via Calle 18 in Castelldefels, continuing along the Paseo de la Tramuntana before rejoining the C-31 through Calle Llevant. Meanwhile, those travelling towards Sitges will be diverted via the Camino de La Pava in Gavà, following a route that includes several local streets before returning to the C-31.
The Generalitat has allocated nearly 600,000 euros to carry out this work, aimed at improving not only connectivity between these towns but also ensuring greater safety for pedestrians. The new bridge is specifically designed to facilitate safe transit in an area with high daily mobility.
Given the importance of the affected stretch and its frequent use by both private vehicles and public transport, additional measures have been implemented to minimise disruption during the night closure. Local authorities have urged drivers to plan their routes in advance and consider alternatives during this period.
