Jaume Collboni responds to Alberto Núñez Feijóo regarding his criticisms of Barcelona's housing policy. The mayor accuses the PP leader of speaking hearsay and not defending those affected by evictions.

The mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, has replied to Alberto Núñez Feijóo's criticisms of the city's housing policies. The leader of the Popular Party had cited the Catalan capital as an example of what should not be done. Collboni has also reproached him for his stance on evictions.

Referring to a specific case of eviction, the mayor stated the following:

“For the political leader of a party like the PP to say this, after allowing Mari Carmen to leave her home as she did just a few weeks ago, seems disgraceful to me.”

Collboni maintains that the regulations applied in Barcelona, which do not extend to the autonomous communities governed by the PP, are causing some investors to leave the city. According to the mayor, these funds are usually directed towards Madrid, where they typically relocate.

“There are investors who say: ‘Very well, then I’m leaving Barcelona.’ They usually go to Madrid, and I feel sorry for the people of Madrid, because these funds are heading there.”

Collboni has also called Feijóo's argument about a decline in supply due to the application of the rental price index “false.” He defended that Barcelona has official records to measure market evolution, something that, according to him, does not exist in Madrid. With the data he cited, the rental supply in Barcelona has decreased by 4.7% in the last two years, while 2,000 contracts have been signed more than two years ago.

The mayor also defended the City Council's actions to expand the public housing stock. He explained that the council purchases between 10 and 15 buildings per year, as was the case with Casa Orsola. Collboni specified that the operations of the City Council and the Generalitat have allowed for the acquisition of a total of 483 homes since the start of the term.
