The Mossos d'Esquadra are investigating whether the body found off the coast of Sitges corresponds to one of the two young people missing during the rains in early October.

The Mossos d'Esquadra located the body of a man floating in the sea off the coast of Sitges on Wednesday. His identity and age are currently unknown, and the state of decomposition prevents recognition at first glance.

The alert was received by the police, who activated the maritime unit. According to sources from the Mossos, the officers departed from Vilanova i la Geltrú and found the body in the water.

The main hypothesis of the investigators is that the deceased may be one of the two people missing during the torrential rains in the first days of October. There is still no confirmation.

The two disappearances occurred in Granollers and Pineda de Mar. In Granollers, a 12-year-old boy with autism went missing on October 4 during a heavy downpour. In the case of Pineda de Mar, several witnesses claimed to have seen a young man fall while filming the river's rise with his mobile phone.

The appearance in Sitges does not imply that the death occurred at that beach. According to police sources, ocean currents could have carried the body from another point along the coast.

Identification will be crucial to determine whether either of the two disappearances can be considered resolved. The Mossos will first attempt to obtain the deceased's fingerprints. If the condition of the body prevents this, they will resort to DNA testing and comparison with samples from family members.
