Joint operation against drug trafficking
In a coordinated action between the Criminal Investigation Division of the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Customs Surveillance service of the Tax Agency, a complex criminal organization dedicated to international drug trafficking has been dismantled. This operation, which took place in Figueres, Girona, resulted in the arrest of ten individuals, including seven men and three women aged between 24 and 65 years.
The investigation led to multiple searches in various properties located in Figueres, Salt, and Argentona. During these interventions, authorities seized an impressive arsenal that included seven firearms of different calibres and a considerable amount of ammunition. Additionally, two significant shipments of cocaine destined for southern France were thwarted.
The organization used several homes in Figueres as logistical hubs to receive and store illicit goods. From these strategic points, they planned to distribute drugs to other criminal networks operating in France. The detainees employed advanced techniques to conceal the drugs; for example, they used modified vehicles with hidden compartments and hydraulic systems to facilitate transport without detection.
Among the most notable seizures were 20 kilos of hashish, several indoor marijuana plantations, and nearly 60,000 euros in cash, all carefully vacuum-sealed. Specialized equipment for the handling and distribution of cocaine was also confiscated.
Despite the initial success, investigations remain open with the possibility of further arrests related to this criminal network. So far, a total of 13 people have been arrested on charges including membership in a criminal organization, smuggling, and crimes against public health.
This operation not only represents a significant advance in the fight against drug trafficking in Catalonia but also sends a clear message about the ongoing commitment by authorities to eradicate these illegal activities.
