The Local Police of El Prat de Llobregat has taken an important step towards modernising its working tools by gaining access to the Siraj system, a database from the Ministry of Justice. This advancement will allow officers to know, in real time, if a detained person has a criminal record, facilitating the application of the aggravating factor for repeat offending.
The City Council has highlighted that El Prat is one of the first small municipalities to access this valuable tool, reflecting a renewed commitment to citizen security. The implementation of the Siraj system is considered crucial for improving the effectiveness in handling judicial cases and ensuring that the decisions made by judges are based on complete and up-to-date information.
To ensure effective integration of the Siraj system, the Local Police is already receiving specialised training. This training is essential for officers to properly use the database and thus optimise their daily work. According to the City Council, the goal is for each arrest to be accompanied by a complete history of the individual, allowing judges to adequately assess whether to impose preventive detention or apply the corresponding aggravating factor.
As part of this new strategy, statistics on crime in El Prat during the year 2025 have also been presented. In a recent security meeting held this Wednesday, it was reported a slight decrease in criminal incidents, dropping from 4,806 recorded incidents to 4,638. These numbers place El Prat within the average of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, which is a source of satisfaction for local authorities.
Despite the widespread increase in some nearby metropolitan areas, El Prat shows a constant effort to keep crime under control and improve the perception of safety among its citizens. The combination of access to new technologies like Siraj and proactive management could be key to continuing to reduce these rates.
