A new approach to security in l’Hospitalet
The city of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat is facing a growing challenge in terms of security, with an alarming 10.1% increase in crime during the year 2025. In response to this situation, the Minister of Interior of the Generalitat, Núria Parlon, has presented the Bastió plan, a comprehensive strategy aimed at strengthening police presence and reducing violent thefts.
Since its implementation on 14 April, the Bastió plan has enabled collaboration among different police forces, including the Mossos d’Esquadra, National Police, and Guàrdia Urbana. This joint effort will continue until 31 August, with an intensive and ongoing focus on addressing public safety concerns.
One of the main objectives of the plan is to reduce violent thefts, which have shown an increasingly younger profile among offenders. According to recent data, these crimes have decreased by 10.3% in the first month of implementation. The head of the local police station, Sònia Rius, has urged caution regarding these initial results.
Despite the police reinforcements, authorities acknowledge that issues cannot be resolved solely through coercive measures. The socioeconomic complexity facing l’Hospitalet requires comprehensive attention. Additional plans are being developed to address these structural issues that have affected the community for years.
The plan also includes specific actions against drug trafficking. So far this year, nine drug dens have been shut down, and around forty more are expected to be closed during 2025. This strategy aims to dismantle the criminal networks that fuel much of the crime in the city.
As l’Hospitalet implements these new measures, the question arises as to whether nearby towns like Esplugues or Cornellà should be concerned about a potential displacement of crime. Authorities have assured that there are teams dedicated to investigating these border areas to prevent any negative collateral effects.
