A joint operation between the Mossos d’Esquadra and the Local Police has resulted in the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of 370 marijuana plants in an apartment located in El Prat de Llobregat. The intervention, which took place between 22nd and 26th May, was carried out after receiving information about possible criminal activity related to drug trafficking.
Prior investigation and execution of the operation
The agents began investigating the property after receiving various reports indicating its use as a centre for the illegal cultivation of cannabis. During the weeks leading up to the operation, discreet surveillance was conducted that confirmed the initial suspicion, highlighting a strong smell of narcotic substances coming from the building.
As the investigation progressed, the Mossos d’Esquadra managed to link five individuals to this illicit activity. They were two men and three women aged between 22 and 48 years. All of them face charges for a crime against public health, specifically for drug trafficking, as well as for electricity fraud.
Accompanied by electrical technicians, the agents discovered a fraudulent connection to the building's electricity supply, evidencing irregular and high consumption. The manipulations carried out were complex; part of the building had even been drilled to access the main supply. These practices are not only illegal but have also been responsible for several fires in the area.
The search authorized by the court number 5 of El Prat allowed the authorities to seize the cultivated plants and dismantle all the infrastructure used for their production. One of the detainees had prior criminal records, which adds severity to their legal situation.
The arrested individuals were brought before the judiciary immediately after the operation. The local police have emphasized the importance of these actions within the framework of a broader plan aimed at combating drug-related crimes in the region.
The growing concern over illegal crops like this has led the Catalan authorities to intensify their efforts to prevent illicit drug-related activities. Recent operations reflect a trend towards greater collaboration between different police bodies to address these types of crimes that affect both public safety and community well-being.
