A notable decline in illegal occupation
Pineda de Mar, a municipality in Maresme, has achieved a 39% reduction in cases of illegal occupation of homes from 2024 to February 2026. This figure was presented during the recent meeting of the Local Security Board, which included various law enforcement agencies such as the Local Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra.
Despite the demographic increase that Pineda de Mar has experienced, with over 3,000 new residents between 2023 and 2026, crime rates have shown a downward trend. In the last year, there was a global decrease of 5% in crimes, reflecting a significant improvement in citizen security.
The authorities attribute this success to the measures implemented to enhance surveillance and control on the streets. The gradual installation of video surveillance cameras and periodic checks carried out by different police forces have been key to maintaining this positive trend.
However, not all news is good; there has been an 8% increase in vehicle thefts during the same period. Nevertheless, the police forces have effectively responded to this situation with arrests made directly on the streets.
Despite the rise in certain types of crime, the Mossos d’Esquadra have highlighted that Pineda de Mar remains below the Catalan average in general terms. This suggests that the strategies implemented are bearing fruit and that the municipality can be considered a positive example within the regional context.
