The phone rings. Unknown number. Prefix 91, Madrid. You answer, and on the other end is a voice claiming to be from Vodafone. So far, so normal… except that this number has nothing to do with Vodafone. If the 919462650 sounds familiar, keep reading, because there’s a lot to tell about it.
What is known about the number 919462650
The 919462650 is a landline number registered under the operator Bnt Business, S.L., with a Madrid prefix. That’s in theory. In practice, what’s behind it is something much less innocent.
The number has accumulated 16 formal complaints on phone identification platforms, and most users identify it as a service of telemarketers posing as Vodafone. This is not an isolated case, nor a one-off confusion. It’s a pattern.
On ListaSpam, one of the main collaborative databases in Spain, the 919462650 appears as a dangerous number with over 297 complaints and more than 110,000 spam calls detected. That figure is no longer just noise: it’s an organised operation.
What users who have received the call say
The experiences accumulating on forums and reporting platforms are revealing. And, hey, they also have a tragicomic aspect if it weren’t for the fact that some cases nearly ended badly.
One of the most common testimonies describes agents who request the full ID and bank account number under the pretext of a supposed billing issue. When the affected person called Vodafone’s official service (1444), the company confirmed that they had no record of that call.
Another common pattern: they offer an “exclusive offer” with significant discounts, but when the user asks to have it sent in writing via email or SMS, they refuse. That’s where the scam reveals itself.
Some users describe multiple calls in the same day, even several in a row in the morning. One person reports receiving three calls in a single morning. Another has had the number blocked for months and still receives attempts.
One of the most serious cases recorded: a 78-year-old person was almost about to provide their bank card details. Only the intervention of a family member before the data transfer was completed prevented the outcome. The complaint ended up with the National Police.
Some users point out that the call centre may operate from a Latin American country, with the originating number falsified to appear as a Spanish call. This would explain the accent that several affected individuals mention, as well as the repetitive and scripted nature of the calls.
What happens when you ask something specific
Several testimonies agree that when the user asks specific questions about their actual contract, the agent on the other end gets confused, cannot respond, and ends up hanging up. This is classic behaviour from someone who is following a learned script but has no real access to any system of the company they claim to represent.
There are also cases where, directly, when someone answers, there is absolute silence and then the call is cut off. Or an automatic recording of “we are calling from the offers department” plays before anyone has time to react.
Is it legal for them to call you like this? The answer is no
Since 2023, the General Telecommunications Law requires express consent to make commercial calls in Spain. Companies can only contact for advertising purposes if the user has given explicit authorization or is a previous customer.
According to article 66.1.b of this law, commercial calls without prior consent are strictly prohibited. This is not a grey area: it is prohibited, period.
Additionally, any user has the right to request immediate removal from the databases of the caller, and can report the number to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).
And if the situation escalates to harassment, it’s good to know that telephone harassment is classified under article 172 ter of the Penal Code. Keeping records of call logs and reporting to the police, Civil Guard, or through the National Police website is a completely valid option.
Register with the Robinson List
The Robinson List is a free service managed by ADigital that allows you to opt-out of unwanted advertising via phone, SMS, email, or postal mail. Registration is done at listarobinson.es with your ID, and once registered, companies cannot contact you for commercial purposes unless you are a previous customer.
It does not eliminate 100% of fraudulent calls, that must be said honestly. But it does significantly reduce the volume of contacts from companies operating within the law.
What to do if you receive a call from 919462650
The short answer: do not provide any information. Neither full name, nor ID, nor account number, not even the “yes” that confirms it’s you. There are scams that use that simple vocal confirmation as supposed recorded consent.
The most practical thing is to block the number directly from your mobile. On Android, just press and hold the number in the call log and select “Block”. On iPhone, tap the information icon next to the number in Recent, scroll down to “Block this contact” and confirm.
If you want to go a step further, there are apps like Call Blocker that identify and automatically block numbers marked as spam in collaborative databases, without the phone even ringing.
And if you have already provided any information, it’s urgent to contact your bank to proactively block any suspicious transactions, and file a report with the police. The sooner, the better.
