A historic agreement for Lloret de Mar
After nearly three years of legal tensions, the Lloret de Mar City Council has reached a significant agreement with the company Flinder Data, owner of the luxury chalet in Can Juncadella. This pact not only ends a litigation that dates back to 2009 but also lays the groundwork for the creation of a new coastal path that will connect Canyelles beach with cala Morisca in Tossa de Mar.
The agreement, currently on public display and set for approval at the next municipal plenary, details a route of 1.49 kilometres that will move away from the private chalet and closer to the sea. The selected proposal includes a combination of natural paths and suitable structures to ensure safety and accessibility. More than 70% of the route will be natural, while stairs and walkways will be constructed in the steeper sections.
Flinder Data will bear the total cost of the project, estimated at 1.5 million euros, which includes both the construction and the drafting of the project. The City Council will be responsible for the maintenance and management of the path once the works are completed. This collaborative approach aims to benefit both citizens and private owners.
Despite the optimism shown by Mayor Adrià Lamelas about this “win-win”, environmental organizations such as SOS Costa Brava have expressed skepticism regarding the actual compliance with the agreement. They remind that there was already a similar agreement in 2009 that was not respected by the previous owners. Jordi Palaudelmàs, president of SOS Costa Brava, has voiced his concerns about the necessary guarantees to ensure that this time the promises are kept.
The lawyer representing Flinder Data has assured that if the obligations stipulated in the agreement are not met, the City Council will be able to execute financial guarantees. This adds an additional layer of security to the process. However, timelines are crucial; although it is estimated that the processing could be completed in one and a half years, there are officially three years to finalize all necessary procedures.
As this administrative process progresses, residents and visitors hope to soon enjoy renewed access to these beautiful Catalan coasts. The connection between Canyelles and cala Morisca will not only improve coastal mobility but also promote sustainable tourism in the region.
