The Majestic Hotel & Spa in Barcelona, an icon of luxury in the city, has begun a renovation process aimed at reaffirming its position in the competitive hotel market. With an initial investment of over 10 million euros, the transformation will be carried out under the direction of the new manager, Luis Cobo, who has experience in prestigious hotels such as Four Seasons and Park Hyatt. This change is crucial not only to modernise the facilities but also to attract a younger and more demanding audience.

Comprehensive transformation of the hotel

Just eight years after celebrating its centenary, the Majestic faces a significant challenge: adapting to the new demands of luxury tourism. The reform includes a reduction in the total number of rooms, from 258 to 246, with a special focus on increasing the number of suites to 50. This change responds to the growing demand for exclusive experiences among wealthy travellers.

Cobo has highlighted that this renovation involves not only aesthetic improvements but also a complete revaluation of customer service. “We want to reinvent tradition,” says Cobo, who aims to offer glamorous comfort that combines the classic with the modern. The rooms will be equipped with enhanced textiles and customised furniture that will elevate the guest experience.

One of the highlights will be the reopening of the famous panoramic terrace Dolce Vitae, which will not only feature a new design but also a renewed menu created by chef David Romero. This space will offer Mediterranean dishes made with local products and will host monthly events such as ‘Gaudí from the Heights’, along with varied musical programming.

Cobo emphasizes: “We want the hotel to attract locals as well.”

Aside from changes to the rooms and restaurants, other common areas such as the lobby and the iconic bar are scheduled to be transformed by the renowned studio Lázaro Rosa Violán. These renovations are expected to begin in November and be completed during the first quarter of next year.

Under this new direction, Cobo plans to incorporate unique cultural elements within the hotel. For example, the history of the Albéniz lounge will be rewritten by introducing Japanese cuisine through an omakase concept. This will allow both guests and visitors to enjoy an exclusive culinary experience without needing to be staying at the hotel.

Additionally, the wellness offering will be expanded with new cabins for aesthetic treatments and additional services such as hairdressing and manicures. The lower level already features modern facilities such as a heated pool and areas dedicated to the spa.

As this transformative process progresses, Cobo has high expectations for how this iconic hotel can contribute to Barcelona's global tourist appeal. With an average occupancy rate of over 80% in the past year, particularly among clients mainly from the United States and the Middle East, his goal is to attract even more selective tourism to the city.

Cobo concludes: “We are working to become an exceptional urban resort.”

As these renovations develop until 2028, the Majestic Hotel & Spa promises to become not only a place to stay but a vibrant cultural destination within Barcelona itself.
