Mayor **Jaume Collboni** has made official the aspiration of **Barcelona** to host **WorldPride 2030**, the largest global event for the LGBTI+ community. The bid coincides with historical anniversaries of the movement in Catalunya and Spain.

The bid for **Barcelona** to host **WorldPride 2030** is now official. Mayor **Jaume Collboni** announced it through his social media, with a message linking the proposal to the defence of freedoms and the role the city has played in recent decades.

Collboni summarised the initiative with a phrase: This 2030, the path of freedom leads us home. The City Council thus presents the bid as a gesture of collective pride and recognition of the city’s trajectory.

“This 2030, the path of freedom leads us home.”

**WorldPride** is the most significant international summit for the LGBTI+ community. It brings together massive demonstrations, human rights conferences, cultural festivals, and political debates, attracting millions of visitors from around the world.

For the city, the City Council anticipates effects in various areas. According to the council, it would strengthen Barcelona's international leadership in equality and non-discrimination, provide greater visibility to the local associative fabric, and boost commerce, hospitality, and services.

The choice of the year 2030 also has a historical significance. That year marks **50 years** since the first organised mobilisations by the LGBTI+ movement in Catalunya, and also **25 years** since the law that legalised same-sex marriage in Spain.

In a context where hate speech and reactionary stances have recurred, the council wants the event to serve to protect what has been achieved and to ensure that new generations have more space to live their identity without barriers.
