The Government of Catalonia has opened a new call to incorporate 300 professionals into the Fire Brigade. The announcement was published on September 16 in the Official Gazette of the Government of Catalonia (DOGC), and the deadline for submitting applications ends on September 29 inclusive. Interested parties must register electronically through the Tràmits Gencat platform, as reported by diaridetarragona.com.
The Government's objective is to move towards a workforce of 4,000 members planned in the Firefighters Plan 2030, in order to strengthen the body's response capacity in light of the increase in emergencies. This call is one of the actions to reach that figure.
The call maintains the reservation of 40% of the positions for women, a measure that has been applied in the last three calls. The female presence in the Brigade has increased: according to data from the Department of Interior and Public Security, women represented 3% of the total and currently represent 8.9%. The reservation of positions is part of measures to achieve a more diverse and representative workforce of society.
The selection process consists of four phases: opposition, competition, selective course at the Institute of Public Security of Catalonia (ISPC), and internships in fire stations or facilities of the General Directorate of Prevention, Fire Extinction and Rescue.
The opposition phase allows for a maximum of 40 points and includes five mandatory and eliminatory tests. The first is the knowledge test, multiple-choice, which is reduced from 95 to 70 questions and allows for up to 8 points. The renewed physical test consists of three exercises related to intervention situations of the body: vegetation fires, structural fires, and water rescue. The entire test allows for up to 10 points.
The third is the trades test, which allows for up to 12 points. The fourth test corresponds to the psychological evaluation, with a maximum score of 10 points and, in this call, becomes eliminatory. Finally, those who pass the fourth test will be called for the medical test, which will be rated simply as fit or unfit. Additionally, candidates who do not demonstrate the required knowledge of Catalan and Spanish must take the corresponding language tests.
The competition phase, with a maximum of 20 points, will assess both professional experience in categories related to the job and certain qualifications from intermediate vocational training cycles.
Those who pass the entire process will join the fire stations in Catalonia, including those in the province of Tarragona. For local residents, this call represents a job opportunity in an essential public service, with positions distributed throughout the territory.
