President Juanfran Pérez Llorca announces the High Distinction to the Autonomous City of Ceuta at the institutional event on 9th October, in gratitude for the solidarity received after the flood of 2024.
The Valencian Government will award its High Distinction to the Autonomous City of Ceuta during the celebration of 9th October. The announcement was made by President Juanfran Pérez Llorca after meeting in an institutional audience with the Ceuta president, Juan Jesús Vivas, as reported by alicantepress.com.
The recognition aims to highlight the response of the city and its population to the situation facing the North African enclave. Pérez Llorca has linked this gesture to the solidarity that the Valencian Community received from various parts of Spain following the flood of October 2024, explaining that it is now time to reciprocate that support.
"Despite such a complicated moment, they have demonstrated a sense of presence and commitment to their country and their city"
The head of the Consell has been harsh in describing the situation in Ceuta. He stated that Spain "has suffered one of the worst attacks on its sovereignty with the invasion of Ceuta" and added that, in his opinion, "the problem is not solved."
The distinction will be awarded to the city as a whole, not to a specific person or entity, and will be presented at the institutional event of the regional day, which this year will be celebrated on Friday 9th October. The Generalitat has not yet detailed the exact format of the award presentation or who will accept the accolade on behalf of Ceuta.
Vivas has expressed gratitude for the recognition and highlighted the attitude of the people of Ceuta. In his speech, he emphasised "the courage of the people of Ceuta not to give up, the maturity of our people not to lose their composure, and the support from all of Spain." He also expressed solidarity with the Valencian people for the consequences of the flood, offering condolences to the victims and support to those still suffering its effects.

The Ceuta president also defended coexistence among people of different cultures and origins in the city. Regarding the migration situation, he maintained that normality will only be restored when those who, he said, arrived illegally return to Morocco.
The institutional meeting was also attended by the first vice president and councillor for Housing, Employment, Youth and Equality, Susana Camarero; the second vice president and councillor for the Presidency, José Díez; and the councillor for the Presidency and Governance of Ceuta, Alberto Ramón Gaitán.
For the Valencians, 9th October is the central event of the regional calendar. The awarding of the High Distinction to Ceuta adds to the institutional events planned for that day, the complete programme of which has not yet been made public. The Generalitat has confirmed that the distinction will be awarded that day, but has not specified the exact location or time of the event.
