On June 30, at 6:00 PM, a crucial panel discussion titled “Discursos d’odi i discriminacions per raons religioses” will be held at the Centre Cívic Casa Golferichs in Barcelona. This event is organized by the Office of Religious Affairs (OAR) and the Office for Non-Discrimination (OND), with support from the Human Rights Resource Center. Richard Sánchez, the Commissioner for Citizen Relations and Cultural and Religious Diversity, will participate in this important dialogue.
The session aims to delve into contemporary debates surrounding hate speech and discrimination based on religious beliefs. It seeks to reflect on their social, institutional, and political ramifications. Such discussions are increasingly relevant as societies grapple with rising intolerance globally.
Joining Sánchez on the panel are notable figures including Marta Simó, an associate professor of Sociology and Global Politics at the Autonomous University of Barcelona; Pedro Casermeiro, a psychologist affiliated with the Pere Closa Private Foundation and coordinator of Rromane Siklǒvne; and Youssef M. Ouled, a journalist and researcher specializing in racism and Islamophobia.
The moderator for this session will be Esther Pardo, who coordinates the Human Rights Resource Center for the City Council of Barcelona. Pardo emphasized that “understanding these issues is vital for fostering an inclusive society.”
