The principles that guide our newsroom

Barcelona Press is a digital news outlet committed to rigorous, independent, public-interest journalism. This code of ethics sets out the principles that guide our editorial team and defines how we relate to sources, readers, and advertisers.

Editorial independence

Our editorial line is not shaped by economic, political, or commercial interests. Decisions about what to publish, how to publish it, and what angle to take are made exclusively by the newsroom. No advertiser, sponsor, or external entity has the power to influence our editorial content.

Accuracy and journalistic integrity

We are committed to verifying information before publishing it, cross-checking sources, and clearly distinguishing between facts and opinion. When we publish something that later turns out to be incorrect, we correct it transparently in accordance with our Correction Policy.

Relationship with sources

Our journalists do not accept financial compensation, gifts, invitations, or any personal benefit from sources that could compromise their independence or create the perception of a conflict of interest. When a journalist has a prior relationship or personal connection with a relevant source, they are required to disclose it internally and, where appropriate, to step back from covering that story.

Conflicts of interest

Any member of the editorial team who identifies a potential conflict of interest in covering a story is required to report it to editorial management, who will decide whether the piece needs to be reassigned.

Sponsored content and advertising

Barcelona Press clearly separates editorial content from sponsored or advertising content. All sponsored articles, branded content, and advertorials are visibly labelled as such, and may never be mistaken for independent journalistic reporting.

Privacy and source protection

We respect the right to privacy of individuals and protect the confidentiality of sources when they request it and when doing so serves the public interest.

Review and updates

This code of ethics is a living document that we review periodically to keep it aligned with changes in the media landscape and professional standards in the industry.
