The Badalona City Council has unveiled a plan to hire 102 unemployed individuals to enhance municipal services and public spaces. This initiative aims to boost local employment and improve community welfare.
The Badalona City Council is set to implement an ambitious employment program that will bring 102 unemployed residents into the workforce, starting from September 15, 2026. This initiative is designed not only to bolster municipal services but also to enhance the quality of public spaces in the city. The program will run until March 31, 2027, providing nearly seven months of employment opportunities.
The council’s decision comes as part of a broader strategy to address unemployment in the region, particularly among those aged over 18 years. According to Cristina Agüera, the first deputy mayor, this plan represents a significant step towards generating quality jobs while simultaneously improving essential services that directly impact residents’ well-being.
The new hires will encompass a wide range of professional profiles. Positions include specialists in environmental science, commerce and marketing, audiovisual communication, culture, protocol and public relations, tourism management, economics, and engineering. Additionally, there will be roles for administrative staff, civic agents, reception agents, as well as operational positions related to maintenance and gardening.
This approach mirrors similar initiatives seen across Spain where local governments have sought innovative solutions to combat rising unemployment rates post-pandemic. For instance, a comparable program in Barcelona successfully integrated over 150 job seekers into various city projects last year.
The application process for interested candidates will take place from July 2 to July 9, 2026. Applicants can submit their forms either online or in person at the Servei d’Impuls Municipal de Promoció de la Ocupació (IMPO) offices. The list of accepted candidates will be published on July 13, with final selection results expected by July 31.
The total investment for this initiative amounts to approximately 2.7 million euros, reflecting the city’s commitment to fostering economic growth through job creation. The council emphasizes that applicants’ socio-labor situations and relevant experience will be key factors in the selection process.
This program not only aims at reducing unemployment but also seeks to enhance community engagement by involving locals in improving their own neighborhoods. Residents are encouraged to participate actively in this opportunity that promises both personal growth and communal benefits.
