The investigation into the death of Isak Andic, founder of Mango, has taken a significant turn with the presentation of new WhatsApp messages between him and his son, Jonathan Andic. These messages, recovered by the Mossos d’Esquadra, suggest a tense and conflictual relationship that may have influenced the tragic outcome that occurred in December 2024. Prosecutor Teresa Yoldi has argued that these exchanges are fundamental to understanding the family dynamics and possible motives behind the alleged homicide.
Revealing messages
In July 2024, five months before his death, Jonathan sent several messages to his father reflecting on their complicated relationship. In one of them, he wrote: “I’m not surprised you thought I was capable of even killing you.” This message has been cited by the prosecutor as evidence of the emotional state and existing tensions between them. The communication took place in the context of family therapy aimed at improving their interactions.
Additionally, Yoldi highlighted another message where Jonathan admitted that “it was impossible to heal our relationship,” reinforcing the idea of a deteriorated bond. These messages were obtained following a forensic analysis of Isak’s mobile phone, found in his pocket at the time of his death.
The relationship between father and son was not only affected by personal issues but also by economic interests. According to the prosecution, there were disagreements related to the creation of a charitable foundation to which Isak planned to allocate part of his estate. In this regard, a message sent by Isak to his psychotherapist mentioned the possibility of disinheriting Jonathan.
Despite claims by lawyer Cristóbal Martell about a good relationship between them according to family testimonies, the intercepted messages contradict this narrative. Judge Raquel Nieto had previously pointed out that economic tensions were a possible motive behind the crime.
Prosecutor Yoldi has also expressed concern about the potential flight risk due to Jonathan Andic’s high economic capacity. Therefore, she requested to maintain the precautionary measures imposed on the accused: one million euros as bail, surrender of the passport, and weekly signing before the court. These measures aim to ensure his presence during the judicial process.
“The existing indications point to a conflictual relationship that contradicts what Jonathan has defended,” Yoldi stated in her writing.
The detailed analysis conducted by the Mossos d’Esquadra includes geolocation of both the accused and the victim at key moments around the fatal incident. Furthermore, calls made by Jonathan during that critical period have been reviewed, and photographic reports of the location where the tragic event occurred—a road near Montserrat—have been compiled.
As this complex investigation progresses, it becomes clear that each new piece of information could be crucial in determining not only the exact circumstances surrounding Isak Andic’s death but also in clarifying the underlying family dynamics that may have led to this unfortunate outcome.
