An 18-year-old has been arrested in Soses, linked to the death of Dolors Agustí, found dead in a cornfield. The community is in shock and has declared official mourning.
The town of Soses, in the Segrià region, is in turmoil following the discovery of the lifeless body of Dolors Agustí, a 75-year-old woman. The victim was found last Saturday night in a cornfield near her home, leading the Mossos d’Esquadra to arrest an 18-year-old as the main suspect. According to authorities, the arrest took place in the same town where the crime occurred, although they have not disclosed the nationality of the detainee.
Dolors had gone out for a walk with her dog around 19:45, but hours later the animal returned alone, raising concern among her family and neighbours. After initiating a community search, it was around 23:45 when two residents found her body in a cornfield located about 200 metres from the town centre. The autopsy revealed that she had multiple bruises and cuts inflicted by a blunt object.
The local council reacted quickly to this tragedy and called for a minute of silence at noon on Sunday, attended by dozens of people not only from the village but also from nearby towns. In their official statement, they expressed their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dolors Agustí and declared three days of official mourning to honour her memory.
“We deeply regret the irreparable loss suffered by her loved ones,” stated the council. They also called for respect towards the family during this difficult time and expressed hope that the investigations would clarify the facts as soon as possible.
This tragic event has reignited concerns about safety in small communities like Soses. Historically, such incidents are rare in areas with smaller populations; however, similar cases have occurred previously in other parts of the country. For instance, five years ago, another murder shocked a small rural community nearby.
Residents have expressed their fear and uncertainty following this violent incident. Some have begun to organise community meetings to discuss preventive measures and improve local safety. “We never thought something like this could happen here,” commented one resident during the minute of silence.
Authorities continue to investigate the case while awaiting additional forensic results that may provide more information about the exact circumstances of the crime. Residents are invited to actively participate in upcoming meetings organised by the council to address public safety issues.
For those interested in paying tribute to Dolors Agustí or supporting her family during these difficult days, it is recommended to visit the Town Hall where commemorative events and spaces for sharing condolences are being organised.
