A forest fire wreaks havoc on the C-32
On Monday, a vegetation fire caused the closure of the C-32 road in Gavà during the Easter return operation. The fire, which broke out around two in the afternoon, generated a dense column of smoke visible from various points in the Barcelona region, alerting emergency services.
Seven units from the Bombers de la Generalitat de Catalunya were quickly mobilised to the scene to control the situation. Thanks to their effective intervention, traffic in one direction was restored less than an hour after the incident began. At 15:21, the Servei Català de Trànsit confirmed that vehicle flow had returned to normal.
The fire not only affected the road; it also spread towards the boundaries of the Parc Agrari del Baix Llobregat, burning approximately 500 square metres. Fortunately, due to the rapid actions of the firefighting team, they managed to prevent the flames from reaching nearby greenhouses, where there was a significant risk due to the plastics present.
Despite the successful control of the fire, this event highlights the constant dangers faced by metropolitan agricultural areas. The small area affected by the fire represents a crucial access point to the last major agricultural enclave in the metropolitan area of Barcelona. Authorities have emphasised the importance of protecting these vital spaces for both local agriculture and the environment.
This incident once again brings to the forefront the urgent need to implement more effective preventive measures to avoid future fires in vulnerable areas. The combination of climatic conditions and human activities can be devastating if not managed properly.
