Innovation in Electric Mobility
The city of Barcelona is preparing to make a significant leap in electric mobility infrastructure with the construction of its first ultra-fast charging station. This ambitious project, driven by Barcelona Serveis Municipals (BSM), aims to provide drivers with a quick and efficient alternative to recharge their electric vehicles.
The charging station will be located on Germans Desvalls Street, near the Vall d’Hebron promenade, specifically at the height of exit 4 of the ronda de Dalt. This location has been carefully selected, as it is situated in a high-traffic area, similar to traditional petrol stations, which will facilitate access for users needing to quickly recharge their vehicles.
With an impressive capacity of up to 480 kW, these ultra-fast charging points will allow drivers to gain up to 400 kilometres of range in just 15 minutes. This speed is comparable to the time it takes to refuel conventionally, which could radically change the user experience.
It’s not just about charging vehicles; the design of the space will include areas designated for rest and work. Users will be able to enjoy shade while they wait thanks to a large photovoltaic canopy that will house the connection points. Additionally, there will be vending machines and washrooms available to make the wait during the recharging process more bearable.
The City Council has allocated a significant investment of two hundred thousand euros to carry out this innovative project. Construction is set to begin during the summer, and the charging station is expected to be operational before the end of the year, marking an important milestone in Barcelona’s commitment to sustainability and renewable energies.
Although there are currently similar facilities in Catalonia operated by companies like Tesla or Endesa, this will be the first public initiative dedicated exclusively to offering ultra-fast charging. With this advancement, Barcelona aims not only to improve its electric infrastructure but also to position itself as a leader in sustainable mobility within the European urban context.
