The Director General of Equal Treatment and Non-Discrimination and Against Racism, Beatriz Carrillo, is leading this initiative with the aim of eradicating any form of discrimination within the sporting arena.
Not only have political authorities shown their rejection; prominent figures in the football world have also expressed their outrage. The young Spanish and Muslim player Lamine Yamal, among others, has voiced his disgust at these discriminatory acts. During the halftime break, a clear message was displayed on the scoreboard reminding that “the legislation for the prevention of violence in sports prohibits and punishes” any violent or xenophobic act.
