A restaurant in Sant Andreu, Barcelona, has won the award for the best fork breakfast in Catalonia for the second consecutive year. Additionally, the public has given it their vote.
The restaurant L'Andreuenc has once again triumphed in the Lliga del Porc i la Forquilla, as reported by El Debate. This is their second consecutive year at the forefront of the competition that awards the best fork breakfast in Catalonia. The winning dish is a braised pork cheek with cod brandade and Santa Pau beans.
The final was held on September 27 in Lleida, during the Fira MOS-Sant Miquel. In addition to the jury, the establishment received the new public voting award from the attending audience. The competition, driven by the Grup de Sanejament Porcí de Lleida, brought together twelve finalists from four provincial semifinals.
Behind the business are siblings Juli and Susana Alcoriza, who opened the venue in 2023 on Neopàtria Street. He is in charge of the kitchen and she manages the dining area. The pork cheek is first grilled, stewed with wine and vegetables, and once deboned, it is served over the beans and finished with a blowtorch.
The menu features family recipes such as cod jowl inherited from their grandparents and fricandó with ear and moixernons. The midday menu costs 17 euros.
In the podium positions were Jordi Mascort from Can Mascort in Quart (Girona), second with a pig's head stew, and Isidre Codina from Bar Lídia in Lleida, and Florin Breghe from Fonda Montserrat in Cambrils (Tarragona), tied for third place. The competition aims to highlight small restaurants that uphold this tradition, which originated linked to the days of farmers, ranchers, and workers in the 18th and 19th centuries.
