The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, attends the presentation of the report 'Future Lives' in Barcelona this Monday and will tour the affordable rental project 'Illa Siberia' in Poblenou in the afternoon, before the Council of Ministers discusses the new housing decree.
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, visits Barcelona this Monday to participate in the presentation of the report 'Future Lives', an event that will bring together representatives from the central, regional, and municipal administrations. The meeting comes a day before the Council of Ministers addresses the new housing decree, which is still in the negotiation phase.
During the presentation, the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa; the Minister of Industry, Jordi Hereu; the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez; and the Mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, among others, will speak.
In the afternoon, Sánchez will head to the Poblenou neighbourhood to closely examine the public affordable rental housing project 'Illa Siberia', located on Badajoz Street, next to the Vila Olímpica.
The project was promoted by the Barcelona City Council through a delegated promotion formula that maintains public ownership of the land. In July, the keys to 42 homes were handed over: 30 were allocated to individuals registered in the Official Housing Protection Applicants Register and 11 will be allocated to social entities, which will be managed by the Hábitat3 Foundation, made up of several NGOs.
The apartments, ranging from 61 to 72 square metres, are rented for between 429 and 501 euros per month, plus community expenses. The project involved an investment of over 7.9 million euros, with more than 1.5 million coming from the European Next Generation funds.
The municipal land was granted for 75 years for a private entity to build and manage the homes, which will eventually become part of the municipal public housing stock. Sánchez's visit comes after the eviction this week in Madrid of the elderly woman Maricarmen, a case that has reignited the debate over the housing decree.
"The project that Sánchez is visiting, called 'Illa Siberia', is located on Badajoz Street, next to the Vila Olímpica in Poblenou, a project for which the keys to 42 homes were handed over last July"
The new housing decree, which the Government will include in the agenda for the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, will include limits on rental prices and other measures to curb evictions, according to sources from the Executive.
