The Girona government, led by Lluc Salellas, manages to approve its new municipal framework thanks to the abstention of the PSC. This agreement includes commitments regarding the Jordi Vilamitjana park and improvements in cleanliness.

The city of Girona has taken a significant step towards restructuring its municipal government following the approval of the new municipal framework, which will take place this Friday. This decision was made possible by the abstention of the PSC, the main opposition party, which has conditioned its support on several key measures. Mayor Lluc Salellas, at the helm of a minority government formed by Guanyem and ERC, faces new challenges following Junts' exit from the tripartite coalition. The new organisation will include three deputy mayor positions: two for Guanyem and one for ERC. Additionally, the mayor will take on new responsibilities such as the departments of Economic Promotion and Legal Services.

One of the most notable points of the agreement is the protection of the Jordi Vilamitjana park, which is threatened by future constructions related to the Josep Trueta hospital. According to a commitment reached between the City Council and the Generalitat in November 2025, alternatives will be sought to prevent this green space from being affected by the works without delaying the established timelines.

Furthermore, the PSC has demanded improvements in municipal services as part of its support for the new municipal framework. This includes greater control over the cleanliness obligations by the contracting company and the initiation of preparations for a new contract that will come into effect in 2030. Socialist spokesperson Bea Esporrin emphasised that these measures are essential to ensure more efficient and orderly management.

Another important aspect is the transfer of land in Fontajau to the Ministry of Culture for the construction of the Provincial Historical Archive, and the old convent of Sant Josep will also be handed over to the City Council. This move aims to strengthen local cultural infrastructure.

The parties have agreed to hold regular meetings to assess compliance with these agreements. Quim Ayats, deputy mayor, emphasised that this new political reality requires dialogue and collaboration among different political groups to advance significant projects such as the Health Campus or to improve cultural spaces like the Truffaut Cinema.

Urban transformation is also on the agenda; a third phase will be promoted on La Creu street with changes aimed at improving mobility and road safety by eliminating islands located on the roadway.

This agreement not only represents an internal reorganisation but also a commitment to citizens to address urgent issues such as public cleanliness and protect vital green spaces. With these concrete actions, Girona seeks to move towards a more effective and inclusive management.
