The city of Barcelona has taken a significant step in improving port safety by announcing an investment of €591,000 for the acquisition of two heavy trucks and a tanker container for the Barcelona Firefighters. This initiative, which is part of the collaboration agreement between the Port of Barcelona and the City Council, aims to ensure a quick and effective response to any incident in the port area.
Technological and operational improvements
The new vehicles, which were officially presented at an event held at the Barcelona dock, are equipped with advanced technology including sensors and 360° cameras. These improvements will allow firefighters to operate with greater safety and efficiency during their interventions. According to the president of the Port, José Alberto Carbonell, "the modernization of equipment is crucial to maintaining high safety standards."
The trucks feature a hydraulic system that facilitates the loading and unloading of containers, increasing their operational capacity. Additionally, they have more powerful and efficient engines, allowing them to handle heavier loads. Deputy Mayor Albert Batlle highlighted that this investment not only improves existing infrastructure but also strengthens collaboration between local institutions.
The current agreement between the Port and the City Council has been extended until 2030, consolidating a relationship that dates back to 1995. This agreement's main objective is to ensure a swift response to emergencies in the port, thereby minimizing downtime and guaranteeing safety for both workers and citizens. A total of €2,900,000 will be allocated during this period, with €2.4 million directed towards vehicles and equipment.
