A Step Forward in Public Safety
The Local Police of Mataró has taken a significant leap into the future of public safety by becoming the first police force in Catalonia to implement an operational intelligence system known as Fusus. This software, currently in the testing phase, promises to revolutionise the way incidents are managed and information is coordinated among different security bodies.
The Fusus system integrates data from various sources, including surveillance cameras located in public spaces, drones, and portable devices used by officers. This integration allows for the visualisation of all information on an interactive map that shows not only the exact locations of the officers but also heat maps and detailed plans of the area. According to the Chief Inspector of the Local Police, Xavier Santajuliana, this tool is essential for improving quick and effective decision-making during critical situations.
In addition to optimising daily management, Fusus is designed to facilitate collaboration among different police bodies during mass events or natural disasters. In situations where every second counts, having accurate and up-to-date information can make a significant difference. The system's ability to integrate diverse data eliminates the need to manage multiple independent platforms, saving valuable time and resources.
Mataró not only stands out at the regional level; according to Axon, a leading American company in technology for police forces, this city is a national pioneer as the first Spanish local police to apply this advanced type of operational centre. The implementation of the system is the result of a strategic collaboration between Axon and Alphanet Solutions, a local company that has facilitated its deployment.
The official presentation of the agreement took place at the Tecnocampus, where key figures such as Mayor David Bote and Councillor Núria Moreno attended. During this inaugural event, a practical demonstration was conducted to show how Fusus works in real situations. Attendees were able to observe a simulation where data was managed in real time to resolve a simulated robbery.
The pilot test of the Fusus system will last three months and will culminate coinciding with the local festivities known as Les Santes. This period will be crucial for evaluating its effectiveness and determining its possible expansion to other Catalan cities. With this initiative, Mataró not only seeks to improve its own security but also to establish a replicable model for other localities.
