Barcelona-França station, in Barcelona, was inaugurated in 1855 with the first line to Mataró. Today it continues to serve medium-distance and regional trains.

According to noticiasdelvino.com, the origin of the Barcelona-França station dates back to 1855, when the first railway line connecting Barcelona with Mataró was launched. The terminal is still in use and retains, according to the cited source, much of the layout it was born with.

The building seen today, however, is later. It was renovated for the 1929 International Exposition, and its most striking features are the metal structure and the two large canopies, of industrial design.

For provincial travellers, the station remains a regular stopping point. From here, medium-distance and regional services head to the Catalan coast, including those directed to Girona and Tortosa.

Those arriving at the terminal can stroll through the large hall and notice the antique clocks, the wrought iron details, and the stained glass that lets in light. Few travellers take the time to admire it calmly, which is perhaps a pity.

To see it up close, all one needs to do is take a train from the station itself.
