A new era for security in Mataró
The Interior Minister of the Generalitat, Núria Parlon, has announced a significant change in the public security strategy in Mataró. In response to a resolution from the Parlament requesting the construction of a new Mossos d’Esquadra police station, the government has decided to opt for the reform and expansion of the existing facilities of the Basic Police Area (ABP).
The intervention, estimated to cost €920,000, is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027. The main objective is to improve the functionality and operability of the current building, which includes increasing the spaces designated for filing complaints and meeting the needs related to changing rooms for staff.
As these reforms are implemented, the number of personnel in the ABP Mataró has been growing. By 2025, the workforce is expected to reach 157 agents, a notable increase compared to previous years. This growth is part of the department's broader plan, which aims to achieve a total of 25,000 personnel by 2030.
In line with this growth, there is currently an open call to fill 1,587 positions within the police force. This call has made significant progress, already surpassing the second physical test and soon expecting the publication of those selected for the psychoprofessional tests.
Despite not meeting the original demand of the Parlament to build a new police station, the department defends its decision by considering that this reform, along with the increase in the number of agents and closer collaboration with local police and urban guards, will allow them to tackle current challenges in public security.
