The minor, named Rami, left home scared by the storm from Saturday to Sunday morning. More than 36 hours later, he is still missing in one of the municipalities hardest hit by the storm.
The Mossos d'Esquadra and the Firefighters of the Generalitat are continuing the search for Rami, a 12-year-old boy with autism who has been missing in Granollers since the early hours of Saturday to Sunday. The boy was frightened by the storm and left home.
The Catalan police have released a photograph and description of the minor to request public assistance. Rami is 1.73 meters tall, has dark skin, and short, curly black hair. He left home wearing a turquoise t-shirt and orange trousers.
The Mossos warn that, due to his condition and having been out for more than a day and a half, he may be scared and disoriented. Anyone who has seen him can contact 112.
The search is focused on Granollers, one of the municipalities most affected by the storm. On Sunday, it woke up to flooded streets, and on Monday the scene repeated itself as the storm hit hard again.
In parallel, Salvamento Marítimo and the maritime unit of the Mossos continue searching for another missing person: a young man swept away by the water of the Pineda de Mar stream on Sunday morning.
The firefighters searched the 300 meters of the river up to the mouth and combed the sea with boats, helicopters, and drones. As night fell, they suspended the search because there was no formal missing person report, only the notice from two witnesses who saw the young man fall into the water.
The president of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, appeared this afternoon to call for caution in light of forecasts for new torrential episodes this Tuesday afternoon, which will fall on already wet ground.
“Tomorrow afternoon we could see more episodes of torrential rain”
The firefighters have received 550 emergency calls by 16:00 hours on Monday, almost one per minute. Most have been in Granollers, where they have rescued nine people trapped in their cars in flooded areas. Emergency sources specify that none of these rescues have been life-threatening.
As of 19:00 hours on Monday, 10,000 homes were still without power, and 23 emergency generators have been activated to restore supply in various parts of Catalonia.
Illa announced that the Catalan government will approve a first aid package of 75 million euros for those affected this Tuesday. Of this, 20 million will go as non-repayable funds to municipalities most affected, mainly in the Vallès Oriental and Maresme; five million will be allocated to businesses and companies, and the remaining 50 million will be activated immediately for individuals who have lost their homes or cars, to finance recovery at no cost until they receive insurance assistance.
The search operation for Rami will resume at first light on Tuesday, weather permitting.
