The Mossos d'Esquadra have recovered **1,250,000 euros** that a company based in **Barcelona** lost due to an international cyber scam. The money was in an account in **Hungary**, which the Hungarian authorities blocked.

The General Commissioner of Information and Communication Technologies of the Mossos d'Esquadra has managed to return the full amount to the affected company, as reported this Wednesday by the Govern. The fraud involved impersonating a regular supplier of the company.

The perpetrators impersonated the corporate identity of that supplier and infiltrated legitimate commercial communications, which gave the financial managers a false sense of trust. They managed to change the bank details of a real operation and divert an international transfer of 1,250,000 euros to an account under their control.

The deception came to light when the supplier who was supposed to receive the payment reported that they had not received it. The company's complaint was filed in June 2026, and from that moment the investigation focused on tracing the money.

The initial banking traceability efforts located the destination in an account in Hungary. The agents urgently activated international cooperation, mainly through INTERPOL, and coordinated with SEPBLAC to expedite the exchange of information with the competent authorities.

The Hungarian authorities later confirmed the precautionary blocking of the receiving account and immobilised the funds to prevent any withdrawal. Thanks to this, the Barcelona company has been able to recover the money without losses.

The judicial authority overseeing the case agreed to the European Investigation Order and a Seizure Order, deeming them necessary and proportionate. The investigation remains open to identify the perpetrators, their collaborators, and potential beneficiaries of the fraud.
