The Mossos d'Esquadra arrest a 44-year-old man with a European arrest warrant for recruiting and exploiting foreign women in vulnerable situations. He faces a sentence of 28 years in prison.

On Friday, September 25, the Mossos d'Esquadra detained a 44-year-old man in Barcelona who was wanted by the justice system in Norway for his alleged involvement in a criminal network dedicated to human trafficking for sexual exploitation. He was subject to a European arrest warrant.

According to the statement from the Catalan police, the arrested individual is believed to be linked to an organization that recruited and exploited foreign women in extreme vulnerability to engage in prostitution and other sexual services.

The charges against him could result in a sentence of 28 years in prison: 16 years for crimes related to organized crime and 12 years for pimping.

The investigation that led to his location was the result of collaboration between the Norwegian police and the General Criminal Investigation Commissioner (CGIC) of the Mossos. The agents managed to place him in Catalonia and confirmed that he was staying in various hotels without remaining long periods in any, a strategy to hinder his capture.

The definitive breakthrough came when they identified a person from his circle, which allowed them to set up a surveillance operation around him. The arrest occurred when the man was getting out of a luxury car in which agents found several suitcases and personal effects, consistent with his routine of short stays in hotels.

After being brought before the judiciary, the detainee is awaiting extradition to the Norwegian authorities.
