A year of success in the fight against occupations
In a notable effort to maintain safety and community well-being, the Local Police of Salt have thwarted 135 occupation attempts during the year 2025. This figure represents an impressive 72.58% of reported cases, underscoring the effectiveness of the police force in their daily work.
The Town Hall has highlighted that the collaboration of residents has been fundamental in achieving these results. The rapid communication between citizens and authorities allows officers to act swiftly at any sign of occupation. This proactive approach has been vital in preventing situations that could disrupt community coexistence.
Despite the success in prevention, there have also been 57 false alarms, where interventions turned out to be misunderstandings, such as noises from construction or legitimate activities carried out by owners. However, the annual report reveals that only 51 effective occupations have occurred, representing 27.4% of the total attempts.
The overall trend is positive; compared to previous years, police interventions related to occupations have decreased dramatically. In 2023, there were 513 interventions, while in 2024 there were 490. In contrast, during 2025 this number fell to just 243 cases, marking a reduction of 52.6%.
Cristina Alarcón, mayor of Salt, has highlighted the crucial role played by the Local Police in acting quickly in response to community alerts. “Effective coordination among our officers is essential to ensure a peaceful environment,” Alarcón stated. Additionally, Margarida Gallardo, councillor for Citizen Security, emphasized initiatives such as ‘Clean and Safe Corridors’, designed to promote better coexistence and safety within communities.
Despite the current success, both Alarcón and Gallardo acknowledge that there is always room for improvement. The ongoing implementation of preventive strategies and strengthening the bond between citizens and police are essential to continue progressing towards a safer community.
