Savia Residencias receives the first prize for Best Practices in Residential Centres from the Generalitat Valenciana for a model already implemented in eight of its 22 centres, which will donate the €2,000 prize to AFAV.
The model of friendly centres for people with dementia that Savia Residencias is progressively implementing across its network has been awarded the first prize for Best Practices in Residential Centres for the Elderly 2026 granted by the Generalitat Valenciana, as reported by valenciaplaza.com.
The strategy involves adapting spaces, routines, and care to the needs of each resident to enhance their autonomy, orientation, and participation. It is not just about renovating rooms: the model incorporates each person's life history into care, physical, cognitive, and emotional stimulation, family involvement, and training for staff to interpret behaviour changes associated with dementia.
Currently, eight centres of Savia have been recognised as particularly friendly to people with dementia. The company is working to extend the model across its entire network, which consists of 22 centres.
The approach aims for safer and more understandable environments, as well as care that prioritises non-pharmacological alternatives whenever possible. The implementation continues the process started years ago to achieve restraint-free centres, already established in the network, and represents a further step towards comprehensive care in which the environment and organisation of the centre contribute to preserving the autonomy, identity, and quality of life of people with dementia.
"The award recognises a journey built from the daily work of the teams," the company has highlighted.
The financial endowment of the award, amounting to €2,000, will continue outside the centres. Savia has decided to donate the entire amount to the Alzheimer Family Association of Valencia (AFAV), which will allocate it to its choir Les Veus de la Memòria, the first and only one in Spain formed by people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias and, according to the association, possibly the only one in the world.
With this decision, the company wants the award to contribute to the same purpose that motivated the development of the model: to improve the quality of life for those living with dementia and to support their families.
The recognition from the Generalitat comes at a time when dementia care is gaining importance in residential homes in the province of Valencia, where the adaptation of spaces and training of staff have become increasingly valued criteria by families when choosing a centre.
