A monumental challenge for Hansi Flick
The current season has been a rocky road for Hansi Flick, but the FC Barcelona coach is determined to leave his mark in the club's history. With the completion of his second campaign at the helm, Flick faces a new challenge: to become the third coach to achieve three consecutive league titles, a feat only accomplished by Johan Cruyff and Pep Guardiola.
The names of Johan Cruyff, who won four leagues between 1991 and 1994, and Pep Guardiola, who achieved three between 2009 and 2011, are synonymous with success at Barça. In this context, Flick has expressed his motivation: “I am one hundred percent motivated”. However, he is also aware of the difficulties that lie ahead in this new phase.
Flick has not held back in praising Guardiola, acknowledging the magnitude of his work over a decade at Manchester City. “Ten years at a club of this level is incredible,” he commented. The admiration for the Spaniard's achievements is palpable; Flick emphasized that the number of titles accumulated by Guardiola is exceptional and considers him the best in the world for his ability to manage adverse situations.
As he moves into this new season, Flick also faces changes within his team. Star player Thiago Alcántara has decided to leave the coaching staff after having been a disciple both at Bayern and Barcelona. “I understand he has his own plans, but I will miss him,” Flick expressed regarding the player's departure.
Not only coaches face challenges; players must also deal with their own battles. Fermín López is still emotionally recovering after missing the World Cup due to a foot fracture. Flick urged the young talent to learn from this painful experience: “Sometimes it’s a good time to reflect and improve as a footballer”.
Meanwhile, Jules Kounde did not participate recently in training due to physical discomfort. Aware of the risks of playing while not at one hundred percent, Kounde chose to prioritise his health over the possibility of representing his country in international competitions.
As a new season filled with expectations and challenges approaches, Hansi Flick is ready to prove that he can take FC Barcelona to new heights.
