A historic connection between Girona and Luxembourg
Girona-Costa Brava airport has launched an exciting new route that connects directly to Luxembourg, marking a milestone in its operational history. This connection, which will start operating today, will offer two weekly flights on Tuesdays and Saturdays, thus facilitating access to one of Europe's most emblematic destinations.
The Luxembourg airline Luxair will be responsible for operating this new route, providing travellers with a total of 3,952 seats until the end of August. This launch not only represents a significant expansion in flight options from Vilobí d'Onyar, but also diversifies the local air market, which until now had largely depended on Ryanair.
Local authorities are excited about the possibilities this new connection will bring for tourism and cultural exchanges. From the Strategic Airport Table, composed of various entities such as the Girona Provincial Council and the Generalitat-Aeroports de Catalunya, they have committed to continue working to attract more airlines and international connections.
With this addition, the airport now has ten airlines operating from its facilities, connecting Girona with approximately 50 cities in 15 European countries. The arrival of the regular flight to Luxembourg is particularly significant as previously there were only connections via charter flights.
As the air infrastructure in Girona strengthens, it is expected that this will boost not only tourism but also business opportunities between both regions. The local community is confident that this new link will facilitate a greater tourist flow and enhance economic and cultural relations between Catalonia and Luxembourg.
