Works that transform transport in Barcelona
From Monday, March 30, residents of Barcelona will notice a significant change in traffic on the Guinardó ring road. This adjustment is a consequence of the works on the new Guinardó-Sant Pau L9 metro station, which are progressing well, according to the Department of Territory of the Generalitat.
To facilitate these works, traffic heading towards Llobregat will be cut off on Sunday, March 29. This will require alternative routes to be implemented for buses H6, V21, and 191, which will see their usual stops modified. Drivers should pay attention to the temporary signage that will be installed to guide their journey.
With the planned changes, only two lanes will remain available in the direction of Llobregat. One of these lanes will be shared between private vehicles and buses, while the other will be exclusively for bicycles. This arrangement aims to improve road safety and encourage the use of sustainable transport.
The construction of this station is part of the ambitious project to complete the central section of the L9/L10 lines of the Barcelona metro. The strategic location near the new Sant Pau Hospital and Sant Quintí street will allow for the creation of an important interchange with L4. Currently, the shaft where the station will be located has already been excavated to a remarkable depth of 76 metres.
This initial phase of civil works is expected to conclude by next summer. Subsequently, work related to architecture and installations within the new underground space will begin. With these improvements, Barcelona is moving towards a more efficient and accessible transport system.
