Barcelona's Civil Protection has activated the Municipal Emergency Action Plan due to the risk of drainage insufficiency. Rain and storms are expected on Saturday afternoon and night.

The Civil Protection of Barcelona activated this morning the Municipal Emergency Action Plan in alert phase, due to the risk that the drains may be overwhelmed by the expected rain and storms in the city. The alert is based on the forecast of heavy rainfall for Saturday afternoon and night.

Additionally, the Inuncat Plan is also activated in the eastern half of Catalonia. According to their calculations, more than 20 litres per square metre in 30 minutes could fall and more than 60 litres per square metre in three hours could accumulate.

The Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat) places the regions of Maresme, Vallès Oriental, and Selva at the maximum danger level, 5 out of 6, due to rain intensity. In surrounding areas such as Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Gironès, or Bages, the level drops to 4 out of 6.

Civil Protection advises checking roofs, lightning rods, drains, and downspouts, and removing accumulated debris from them. They also recommend disconnecting electrical devices, bringing pets indoors, and storing toxic products away from water.

For those who need to go out, the council advises keeping a mobile phone with its charger, essential medications, warm clothing, and personal documentation handy. While driving, it is advisable to moderate speed, brake gently, maintain more distance than usual, and avoid crossing flooded areas.
