The Catalan Institute of Ornithology brings together specialists to review two decades of bird monitoring in the city. The event includes panels on green management, feline colonies, and the protection of species in urban buildings.

The city of Barcelona celebrates twenty years of monitoring its birds with an expert event. The meeting starts at 9:00 with an institutional welcome and continues until the closing, scheduled for 14:00, featuring a programme divided into blocks and two round tables.

The first block addresses how bird monitoring is integrated into European environmental policies. It will be presented by Sergi Herrando, president of the European Bird Census Council and scientific director of the Catalan Institute of Ornithology. Afterwards, Marc Anton, responsible for coordinating the monitoring projects of the same entity, will review the two decades of data in the capital.

The results of the monitoring of common birds in Catalonia are already being applied in the city's green management.

The second block, at 10:00, focuses on the relationship between this data and wildlife conservation. Octavi Borruel, a technician from the Municipal Institute of Parks and Gardens, will explain how it is used in the maintenance of parks and gardens. After a coffee break, Gemma Torres will discuss urban buildings and protected birds.

Among the presentations is a pilot test to change rodenticides on the mountain of Montjuïc, aimed at preventing secondary poisoning. This will be presented by Tomàs Montalvo, head of the Urban Pest Surveillance and Control Service of the Barcelona Public Health Agency. A management model for feline colonies to reduce their impact on biodiversity will also be presented by Carme Maté, director of the Animal Rights Service.

At 12:15, the first round table begins, dedicated to the challenges of conserving birds in urban environments. Participants include Raul Aymí, head of the Catalan Ringing Office, Ricard Casanovas, head of the Fauna and Flora Service of the Government of Catalonia, Xavier Larruy, and Jordi Baucells, president of the Catalan Institute of Ornithology.

The second table, at 13:05, discusses integrating biodiversity into the city of the future. It features Ariadna Miquel, director of Urban Strategy Services at the Barcelona City Council, Jordi Bordanove, from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, Mònica Ubalde, from the Barcelona Institute of Global Health, and Marc Montlleó, director of the Environment, Energy and Data Area of Barcelona Regional.
