Barcelona City Council has approved the project to move the bike lane on Calle de la Marina, between Ausiàs Marc and Diputació, from the pavement to the road. The works will begin in the first quarter of 2027 and will last five months.

The section of bike lane on Calle de la Marina between Ausiàs Marc and Diputació, in the Eixample district, is the last part of the entire cycling axis that still runs on the pavement. The Barcelona City Council has approved the project to move it to the road.

The measure aims to provide continuity to the bike lane network and improve the safety of cycling routes. With the relocation, the pavement will be free for pedestrians, according to the council.

The new lane will be bidirectional and will have 460 meters in each direction. The two directions will be separated by barriers to prevent accidents. At the intersection with Diputació, it will connect with the cycling path on the Llobregat side of Marina.

The road will be divided into three sections. Between Diputació and Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, there will be service strips on both sides, a bus lane, space for services and residents heading towards the sea, the bidirectional bike lane, and four traffic lanes heading towards the mountain.

Between Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and Casp, there will be lateral service strips, one traffic lane heading towards the sea, the bidirectional bike lane, and four lanes for vehicles heading towards the mountain.

And between Casp and Ausiàs Marc, there will be service strips on both sides, a bus lane and another for vehicles heading towards the sea, the bidirectional bike lane, and three traffic lanes heading towards the mountain.

The project has an investment of €893,619.46. It includes 16 new bike parking supports distributed along the section, new signs and traffic lights, and the paving of the entire road.

The City Council will contract the service during the autumn. The works will begin in the first quarter of 2027 and are expected to last five months.
