The Catalan harvest has yielded 352.7 million kilos of grapes, above 2025 but below expectations. The heat brought forward the harvest in much of the wine regions.
The harvest has now finished in much of Catalonia. According to agrodigital.com, as of 13 October, Catalan wineries had received 352.7 million kilos of grapes, compared to 340.4 million kilos from the 2025 campaign.
The report from the Department of Agriculture of the Generalitat, compiled with data from INCAVI, confirms the recovery that began last year after the lows of the drought years. Nevertheless, the figure remains below the average volumes recorded before the drought.
The dry and warm spring and summer accelerated ripening and brought forward the harvest calendar in much of the wine regions. According to the same department, these high temperatures limited part of the potential of many vineyards, resulting in production falling below expectations.
The white varieties contribute over 272 million kilos, just over three-quarters of the total, while the reds account for 80.1 million kilos. Both groups consolidate the recovery after the lows of 2024.
The grapes arrived in good health. There were no significant incidents of downy mildew or powdery mildew, and the green mosquito affected some areas, mainly after the fruit had been harvested, with a limited impact on production.
Ripening, however, was uneven across territories, varieties, and water availability. This forced growers and wineries to closely monitor each plot to determine the optimal harvest time.
Among the major varieties, xarel·lo increased by 5% compared to 2025 and macabeo by 3%, while parellada remained stable. The traditional varieties are advancing strongly: garnacha blanca rose by 30%, garnacha tinta by 15%, and taladrado recorded significant increases.
For the wine sector in the province, the campaign represents a recovery in volume, although not reaching the figures prior to the drought. INCAVI will continue working with producers to study how the vineyard responds to climate change and improve its adaptability.
