John Deere's autonomous sprayer GUSS will be showcased at Fira de Lleida during the Agrobiotech Innovation Forum. Vicens Maquinària Agrícola will present it on October 27.

The information, reported by Interempresas, indicates that the Agrobiotech Innovation Forum will take place from October 27 to 29 at Fira de Lleida, where one of the first presentations of the autonomous sprayer GUSS, manufactured by John Deere, will be held in Catalonia. Attendees will be able to see it up close at stand 30-34.

The presentation will be conducted by Vicens Maquinària Agrícola, the official dealer of the brand, who will introduce it on October 27. The equipment is designed for vineyards, fruit trees, and olive groves, high-value crops where labour is scarce each season.

The GUSS incorporates LiDAR, GPS, and 4G connectivity. This allows farmers to programme tasks remotely and monitor its operation in real-time. The automation aims to compensate for the lack of personnel in the field and improve the efficiency of treatments.

The equipment is already certified, and its marketing is expected in the near future. Within the sprayer, the Smart Apply system operates, which analyses foliage with LiDAR sensors and adjusts the application of plant protection products according to the size, density, and shape of each plant.

According to data provided by the company, this technology can reduce water and plant protection product consumption by between 50% and 67%, with potential savings being higher depending on the crop. Additionally, it records agronomic data in the cloud to track each treatment.

Smart Apply is already available on the market and can be installed on most sprayers. For the Lleida region, where fruit trees and olive groves are significant, the fair is an opportunity to see it live before its arrival on farms.
