Former councillor Lluís Puig will return to Catalonia this Wednesday after nine years abroad, after the Supreme Court lifted the arrest order against him.
The former Minister of Culture during the 1-O, Lluís Puig, will return to Catalonia this Wednesday after nine years abroad. The information, reported by 20minutos, states that the agency Efe has confirmed it based on sources close to the Junts deputy.
His return comes after the withdrawal of the arrest order that was in place against him, agreed by the Supreme Court once the Constitutional Court endorsed the amnesty law for the procés. Puig will participate in an event in Terrassa (Barcelona), his hometown, at the Cants de la Llibertat, starting Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the organization on its social media.
The deputy has already expressed his desire to take possession of his seat in the Parlament. If the schedule allows, he could be present at the plenary session that the Catalan Chamber holds this week.
Puig is one of three Junts leaders still outside Spain. The other two are former councillor Toni Comín, who will travel to Madrid on Thursday to collect his mandate as an MEP before the Central Electoral Board, and former president Carles Puigdemont.
On Tuesday, the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court applied the amnesty to Oriol Junqueras, Raül Romeva, Jordi Turull, and Dolors Bassa, convicted for the embezzlement related to the procés. In its ruling, the court criticises the excessive grandiloquence of the Constitutional Court, presided over by Cándido Conde-Pumpido, and reproaches it for reasoning that invades the jurisdictional sphere.
Those who wish to follow Puig's arrival will have the appointment on Wednesday afternoon in Terrassa and then the plenary session of the Parlament this week, where it will be seen if the former councillor takes possession of his seat.
