The president of the PP in the Barcelona City Council, Daniel Sirera, has filed a complaint with the Provincial Prosecutor's Office to investigate the possible criminal responsibilities of the collapse that occurred on July 7 in Sant Gervasi.

The complaint, announced this Saturday by the PP, is not limited to the technical causes of the collapse. It also calls for an examination of the management of prior warnings and the actions that could have been taken before the incident occurred in the Sant Gervasi neighbourhood.

The document submitted to the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Barcelona notes that on May 26, there was a collapse of the pavement on a sidewalk on Sant Gervasi de Cassoles street. Weeks later, according to the party, a resident alerted in a Consell de Barri about the possible connection between that episode, the detected cracks, and the passage of the tunnelling machine.

The PP wants to know what checks were made after that warning, who was informed, and whether the necessary measures were taken. The president of the municipal group, Daniel Sirera, has stated that residents have the right to know what went wrong.

“Three months have passed, and residents have the right to know what went wrong, who was aware of the prior warnings, and who will assume responsibility.”

Sirera recalls that after the events, he urgently requested explanations from both the Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat, and maintains that there has been a lack of transparency regarding the incident and its consequences.

The collapse occurred on July 7 in the Sant Gervasi neighbourhood of Barcelona. The complaint seeks to clarify possible criminal responsibilities and to investigate what happened from the first warning signs.

Residents of the affected area are still awaiting conclusions about the causes of the sinkhole and the measures that will be taken. The Prosecutor's Office must now decide whether to admit the complaint and whether to open proceedings to investigate the facts.
